The aim of this thesis paper is to analyze creation of identity and symbolism in three short stories written by John Steinbeck, Katherine Mansfield and Siu Wai Anderson. All three writers styles are very unique and focuses on different important problems in the plot. John Steinbeck (1902-1968) was American writer which mainly focused in novels writing. In this paper his short story “The Chrysanthemums“ is analyzed. Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923) was modernistic short stories writer in New Zealand. Her story “The Apple Tree” is analyzed in this paper. Siu Wai Anderson’s work was published in book „The Forbiden Stitch“(Lim S.,Tsutakawa M.) – it was published in 1989 years.
