Simbolizmas ir tapatybės vaizdavimas Siu Wai Anderson „Autumn gardening“, John‘o Steinbeck‘o „The chrysanthemums“ ir Katherinos Mansfield „The apple tree“

The aim of this thesis paper is to analyze creation of identity and symbolism in three short stories written by John Steinbeck, Katherine Mansfield and Siu Wai Anderson. All three writers styles are very unique and focuses on different important problems in the plot. John Steinbeck (1902-1968) was American writer which mainly focused in novels writing. In this paper his short story “The Chrysanthemums“ is analyzed. Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923) was modernistic short stories writer in New Zealand. Her story “The Apple Tree” is analyzed in this paper. Siu Wai Anderson’s work was published in book „The Forbiden Stitch“(Lim S.,Tsutakawa M.) – it was published in 1989 years. Book includes seventy Asian-American women writings. Stories in book touches concerns of being outsiders. This thesis paper is divided into four sections with included two appendixes along with list of references. First part starts from introduction in which three short stories are presented along with their authors and states the aim of this paper. Section two introduces theoretical part of different identities. Sub-section 2.1 focuses on Social identity and how it is created from physiological and psychological perspectives. Sub-section 2.2 focuses on Gender and Sexual identities theory. Subsection 2.3 presents National and Ethnical identities formation and theory. Sub-section 2.4 presents symbolism and its importance while analyzing different stories. Third part presents how different identities and symbolism are presented in three short stories “Autumn Gardening”, “The Apple Tree” and “The Chrysanthemums”. In sub-section 3.1 Gender and Sexual identities are analyzed in three main stories. In sub-section 3.2 National and Ethnical identities are analyzed, one of the main focuses are given to Hiroshima’s bombing while analyzing “Autumn Gardening”. Sub-section 3.3 focuses on Social Identity and it is formation of main heroes in the stories following psychological and physiological aspects of theoretical part. Last sub-section 3.4 focuses on symbols found in stories. In the end, section 4 provides us with conclusion and briefly gives findings made while analyzing short stories symbols and different identities. Last part of this thesis paper provides appendices with short summaries of stories “Autumn Gardening”, “The Apple Tree” and “The Chrysanthemums”.Šio diplominio darbo tikslas yra išnagrinėti kaip vaizduojama tapatybė ir kokie simboliai yra randami trijose trumpose istorijose parašytose Džono Steinbecko, Katerinos Mansfield bei Siu Wai Anderson. Visi trys rašytojai išsiskiria savo darbais ir jų stiliais nagrinėdami skirtingas problemas. Džonas Steinbeckas (1902-1968) buvo Amerikos rašytojas mėgęs rašyti noveles. Šiame diplominiame darbe nagrinėjama jo trumpa istorija „The Chrysanthemums“ . Katerina Mansfield (1888-1923) buvo modernistinių trumpų istorijų rašytoja Naujojoje Zelandijoje. Jos istorija „The Apple Tree“ bus nagrinėjama šio darbo analizės dalyje. Siu Wai Anderson darbai buvo publikuoti knygoje „The Forbiden Stitch“ 1989 metais. Knygoje taip pat publikuotos dar septyniasdešimties Azijos Amerikiečių moterų istorijos, visos jos turi vieną pagrindinę problemą – nepritapimą viduomenėje ir jautimąsi atstumtuoju.Užsienio kalbų, literatūros ir vertimo studijų katedraHumanitarinių mokslų fakulteta
